Frequently Asked Questions

CheckMark What are your hours?

We have an office receptionist on duty 7 days a week from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm who can schedule appointments, answer questions, and take messages for our counselors when they are unavailable. Counseling appointments are available by appointment only, 7 days a week.

CheckMark Do you take insurance?

Claims for expenses for counseling with Positive Steps can be submitted to your insurance company for out-of-network benefits. We advise all our clients to educate themselves about the implications of paying for counseling services through insurance—especially when children are involved—by reading the short article, Tattoos and Insurance: Making Long Term Choices You Can Live With.

CheckMark Where is your office located?

We are located at 300 N. Ronald Reagan Blvd. in historic Longwood (near the intersection of Ronald Reagan and SR-434, just east of the South Seminole hospital and just a block north of the train tracks).

CheckMark What is your policy on confidentiality?

Positive Steps takes client privacy very seriously. We are HIPAA compliant, and information disclosed by our clients inside or outside of counseling is kept strictly confidential and is not revealed to anyone outside of Positive Steps without your permission.

It is, however, important for you to know that there are some exceptions to confidentiality. If an exception should arise, we will make every effort to inform you. Here are the exceptions:

  1. If, during the course of your counseling, you threaten to harm yourself or another person, we are legally required to take action to protect the safety of the threatened person. Actions we would have to take could include informing the intended victim of the threat, arranging for hospitalization in cases where self-harm may be present, notifying family or support systems, and/or alerting law enforcement.
  2. If abuse or neglect of a child, aged person, or disabled person is known or suspected, we are required by Florida law to report our concerns to the Department of Children and Families.
  3. If we were to receive a legally binding Court Order from a Judge for your counseling records, or for our deposition or court testimony, we would be required by law to comply.
  4. If you are in counseling and are being evaluated as a result of an Order of the Court, we may be required to provide the Court with reports, documents, or testimony. If the Order includes counseling as a condition of continued employment, we may also be required to provide an employer with reports, documents, or testimony.

CheckMark How much will counseling cost?

It’s fairly easy to view counseling as an expense, but it is far better to view counseling as an investment. Like healthier food choices at the grocery store, gym memberships, and exercise or sports equipment, counseling is an investment into a healthier, better life for both today and tomorrow. Yes, counseling can seem expensive, but over the course of a lifetime, the investment will return far more than the initial costs.

The costs you incur by enduring unhappiness, surviving in a dysfunctional relationship, or tolerating a family situation that is just not working are far, far more expensive than even the most expensive counseling.

For struggling couples, the math is easy. The investment you make in the marriage will always be far cheaper than the financial and emotional cost of any divorce.

Positive Steps pricing is in line with other counseling in the greater Orlando area, and when clients take advantage of one of our discounts or payment options, we can be significantly more affordable.
